Many people believe that eating kosher is very limiting but in fact it offers many delicious options. The main difference that many people don’t understand or mistakenly feel is limiting is that meat and dairy cannot be consumed together. And while this might be hard to imagine for a non-Jew, there are a huge number of recipes that make this diet very interesting and healthy. One very unique dish is the kosher fruit pizza.
Pizza for Dessert
This pizza does not use a traditional crust but instead is made with sugar cookie dough. The “sauce” for this tasty treat is made from kosher cream cheese, vanilla and sugar and is spread over the cool cookie. Sliced bananas, strawberries, white seedless grapes and pineapple are then placed on the cream cheese mixture. A glaze made of sugar, corn starch, water, orange juice and lemon juice is mixed together and then boiled to thicken it before it is poured over the fruit. The entire desert is then chilled until it is served.
Personal Variations
This creative desert can be adapted to meet personal taste or to use the fruit that is readily available. But it is sure to please everyone. And the best part is that this is a dish that meets with all of the kosher food laws but is still delicious.
Tradition and Purpose
While those who are not Jewish look at the kosher food laws as restrictive, those who have lived the faith and understand the meaning of the food laws find them quite easy to follow. The meaning and personal commitment are far more important than the slight adaptation of most conventional recipes.
